Edmonds
Edmonds was once a large barrier beach built across the western side of a much larger Union Marsh, but a history of saw mills, railroads, tank farms, and a large marina has left little of the original spit or of the original marsh. The streams have been put in pipes - although there is talk of freeing one. But this central section, between the ferry and the marina, is a wonderful urban beach and a testament to creativity in public access. Over the past two decades, the City has done a great job of turning what might have been walled-off private shoreline into a community resource.
