WHY THE DEMOCRATS WON

Since Tuesday, much has already been said why the Democrats won this election and to the effect why the Republicans lost. To my view, it all boils down to one, the effective use of propaganda. It may be too simplistic but it's unbelievably true. And I cannot fully understand how the Republicans could have missed it. With the Democrats’ control of Hollywood and specially the mainstream media more than at any time in America's election history, Republicans were in a no win situation in so far as getting their message across.

I felt that part of this election was somehow a throwback to 1940s when the Nazis adeptly used the newly emerging and popular film industry to advance their agenda with great accuracy and effectiveness. Nazism was perhaps the first in harnessing the power of mass media for its elaborate system of propaganda, making use of new technologies of the 20th century. With the appeal of the film industry, people flocked before the silver screens and got mesmerized by the Nazi propaganda, manipulating their emotions and instincts.

To force the industry into line (Gleichschaltung) with their goals, the Nazi Party placed the entire film industry and administration under a control of the Ministry of Propaganda, which gradually increased the noose around the film industry, prohibiting even film criticism and rewarding those who promote their message with national film awards.

To my view as an enthusiast of history, these historical facts sound all too familiar in this recent election. I am so amazed how those who have gone through it could have already forgotten the past, or perhaps that generation have actually already passed.

As the well-known pragmatist Jorge Agustín Nicolás Ruiz de Santayana y Borrás, also known as George Santayana, said “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” The loss of the Republicans is now proving that true. There is much on the shoulders of our historians now to interpret the facts and uncover deceptive propagandas so that people might know the truth that needs to be known. For as someone said "History belongs to those who have the sharpest pen."

Thus, I wouldn’t be surprised if Hollywood, the mass media or the newly minted social media gets low-interest loans and tax benefits from this newly reelected administration that should advance their political agenda.
