Sunset Cliffs
From the wide sandy beaches of Coronado to the steep sandstone cliffs north of Point Loma - quite the contrast. The beaches along here are sporadic pockets of sand and some cobble ramps pushed of against the base of the cliffs. The cliffs themselves consist of Pleistocene sandstones overlying much older Cretaceous ones.
AERIAL VIEW
Sunset Cliffs Boulevard runs along the top of the bluffs and the clifftop is all part of the San Diego's Sunset Cliffs Natural Park. Like most of the bluffs I saw in San Diego County, these have taken quite a beating from foot traffic and runoff and much of the upper bluff erosion is probably unrelated to the waves pounding at the base - although ultimately, I assume those are what control the long-term retreat of this shoreline.
