Asilomar

This spectacular place at the northern tip of the Monterey Peninsula reminded me a little of Acadia (Seawall Beach, for example).  It's another granitic landscape, with low headlands and a mosaic of small beaches.

The sandy pocket beaches are shaped by rocky points, with large cobbles collected in the corners.

The fog never completely burned off during the day, but it stayed mainly offshore here.

There are more pictures of my one-day, many-stops, self-guided field trip on my other blog (hshipman).
